Hi everyone. So begins my first post about animal rescue. Anya and I go to the Henderson Animal Shelter once a week. We give the dogs and cats treats and love on a few of the animals if we can. There was a full blooded Weimeraner in there today, a border collie, two sweet beagles, a black Lab, and some beautiful Siamese cats just to name a few. Meanwhile there are people looking at $1000 dogs in pet stores, which I feel bad for them too because all dogs and cats need homes but there 9,589 animals euthanized a day in this country because of overpopulation in shelters. 9,589! And that’s according to the ASPCA in 2002, so its probably increased since then. Needless to say, Anya and I go to the shelter to give these animals hope and lift their spirits even if its just for 30 minutes. People always ask me how I can stand to go to the shelter, to me, I feel like at least someone goes. I would rather go every day and not adopt a dog and give the animals hope and a little love then to never go and for the animals to sit there and wonder what they did wrong to be in dog jail and never see a smiling face. I do have my bad days though where I basically come home and beg Travis to let me adopt another dog, but as he reminds me we just don’t have a big enough yard for another dog right now. We don’t really have a yard at all. We have a 10×20 patio, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to help. I wish I could afford to adopt a dog a week and then give them free to a good home that I pre-screen or something just to help save one, but that becomes a hard proposition as well because that’s what the shelter is there for I guess. All I can do is try to bring awareness to people and feature a few dogs on my website and encourage adoption! Okay, I’m off my soapbox now! I’ll try to not preach about this too often! :)
