Travis and I have made an interesting decision for the summer and I’m one upping him on it! We have decided to eliminate our cable/Dish for the summer on a trial basis. We are doing Netflix for 8.99 a month so the girls still have some of their shows and we have some version of TV. We are also taking At&T out of the equation. By doing this we are going to be saving close to $80 a month. Now for my one up…we are eliminating soda from our diets completely. All this is going to begin the week after Memorial Day.
It should be interesting. The soda thing is going to be really hard on Travis, but its going to be a good thing in the end. By eliminating soda we will probably save a minimum of another $20 per month and this has become of particular importance to me because I feel like the restaurants are seriously overcharging on soda. We are going to switch to sweet tea, lemonade, kool aid and most importantly water.
Soda seems like a major enemy in the diet war for a lot of people as well. The problem is if you treat yourself to a soda then you get those sugars back in your system and its hard to get those out.
I may be nice and allow Travis 1 soda a day for a while but I’m going to go totally cold turkey.
The soda thing came about after watching Morgan Spurlock’s “Super Size Me” and then I got to doing research on soda and made the decision to eliminate it. I think we can all enjoy food and drink without needing soda as part of our diets. The main thing that surprised me about soda is how damaging it is to your bones and teeth. It totally rips the calcium from your bones. Not good…
Now onto one of my favorite subjects…LOST! It ended this past Sunday night but it will be with me a long time. The ending was something I will not reveal here, but it was really touching. I loved it and I wish everyone would have watched this show. It has a profound meaning and shows that the Generation Xers are much more open minded and worldly in terms of religion than previous generations. The reason I say this is because LOST’s target audience were ages 25-40 mainly. And the ending fits with my views on religion as well. Truly a wonderful TV show with a lot of room for interpretation and exploration.
This was a tough week on me. Sunday I helped give a baby shower for my friend Sonya and had a great time. Then, Monday I started feeling a little tired. Tuesday I had my annual exam with my ob/gyn and he had to check my thyroid levels. Wednesday I got a sore throat and sniffles, Thursday I was bit by a spider, and Friday I broke out into hives. I went to Urgent Care Friday morning and got a shot and some medicine. The hives are better, but still a little bothersome. Was just not a good week for me by any means! I also had a double ear infection and sinus infection that the doc gave me meds for too, and my thyroid tests came back normal.
The girls and Travis have all been well though so that’s the good thing. Anya’s still playing t-ball and doing good with it. Arwen’s into everything and climbs onto everything she can. Chance just tries to stay out of the way so he can sleep for the most part.
I started volunteering with a new rescue group in town called Maggie’s Haven and they are a lot of fun.
I’m also going out to Vegas in June finally to visit my friend for 2 days and that will be a nice little vacation for me. I figure I deserve something like that once every 3 years or so…don’t ya think?
The important news though is of course that the LOST series finale is tonight…don’t call us, I won’t answer!

The LOST finale is coming in 6 days and I’m so excited…DO NOT CALL ME SUNDAY NIGHT for I am going to be seriously obsessed…if you do call don’t expect me to answer! ![]()
