So, we have our house and we really love it. After having to finally replace the sewer pump last week though, we have come to realize that having a house is work! :) Mainly, the work is money, but the work I’m speaking of is how we have to start cleaning and organizing a bit better, especially now that we have 2 little girls. It feels like we are already outgrowing the house, mainly because its a bit disorganized, but I’m bound and determined to make everything pretty and organized by year’s end. We still plan on painting our bathroom, our bedroom, and the dining/living room areas. I know I want an outdoorsy green color in our bathroom and maybe a brownish color in our bedroom, but I have no idea what color I want to paint the dining and living room areas. We want to do 3 shades of the same color to provide a separation from the foyer to the living room to the dining room, because essentially all three rooms are open in our house. I think we want to put up a chair rail in the dining room to make it a little more formal too. I’d like to do some shade of a bluish gray, but I think browns are more neutral so we should probably find some pretty brown shades. And eventually I want to change out all the brassy hardware and change it to more neutral pewter colors too.
And that’s just the inside.

The sewer pump story…well, the man that built most of the houses in our neighborhood went on the cheap side of some things and well, the sewer pump was one of those things in our house. Of course it doesn’t help that the young party boy that we bought the house from apparently damaged the pump pretty good before we ever moved in because somehow or another they managed to stuff an entire mop head down the toilet or sink, not exactly sure how that happened but nevertheless it contributed to the pump essentially burning up. It doesn’t really surprise me because when we first moved in, sure the stove and dishwasher and fridge had hardly been used, but on top of the cabinets in the kitchen were empty bottles of rum and vodka. Apparently there were quite a few parties in our house, amazingly the carpet was in great shape though too, so maybe they were neat partiers! The mop head has to be an interesting story though…

Back to the decorating
On the outside, other than a fence, we are planning to landscape for certain this spring. I want some really pretty hosta plants for the front and maybe some pretty perennials. Then, we also want to get some new shutters and new light sconces, which I know I want black sconces, but I’m not sure if we want to go with dark blue or black shutters, our house is such an unusual color on the outside. Its not really gray and its not really khaki, but somewhere between the two. We will have to paint the front door whatever color we decide on as well.
If anyone has any suggestions we are open to them!
