Words can not even express how proud I am right now. I got in touch with one of my former students from Lakeview when I was a teacher there (in Florida). She was always a thorn in my side for many months and I seriously considered quitting at times because of this student. However, I stuck with it and stuck with her. She was always incredibly smart, but as many of you know I was stuck teaching some of the kids that the guidance counselors categorized as “at risk” kids. I called them my very own “dangerous minds” posse. And for many of you that have seen this movie, you know what I am talking about. Around February though this girl and I came to an understanding and she was great for the rest of the year, which is ironically when I truly started to love teaching. I did love it! I would not trade my students for anything. I loved them and I am proud of all of them. I will also never teach any “normal” kids. Give me my dangerous mind kids any day! However, as I said I got in touch with several of my students through my space and the student that gave me the hardest time. She is in college now! I am so incredibly proud of her! And I just had to post something about it! She asked if I would mind helping her if she needed it and of course I said I would be happy to and then…
This is what she said to me that got me to cry:
“I really do THANK YOU. When I look back and see what teacher’s i gave hell to, it really wasn’t worth it. Now I understand what going to school and getting an education can do for you.”
I don’t know what more to say! That’s more validation than I could ever have hoped for and I am so happy to hear this from the student that challenged me every day to keep going. I am so proud of her and so thankful I had the opportunity to be her teacher!
I filled out a list earlier about my favorite movie quote. Well, I have far more than just 1 so I’m posting the list here….

Hello everyone. Okay, first, my parents and their house are both fine in Prattville. They were VERY lucky. Basically, they live in a neighborhood called Pecan Ridge and it shares the same name of the street that enters into another neighborhood. The other neighborhood got hit severely. Basically, it went in a diagonal pattern hitting one of the busiest intersections in Prattville, damaging both the Kmart and Walmart and many houses. It was very surreal to see the damages first hand. We were in Prattville/Montgomery visiting family and friends this weekend. We were at our very good friends house, Ben and Michelle, and left at 3pm. The tornado hit at 251pm. If we had left even 10 minutes earlier we would have been in real danger by traveling.
We stayed with my parents and the house with no power until about 630pm. We didn’t see any other damage on the way home but it was very dark as there was no power in the majority of Prattville. It was truly a miracle that no one was killed.
I had never seen damage like that before. Houses were flattened, debris everywhere, power lines down, etc.
On the up side, we had a great weekend with our family and hanging with Shell and Ben. And Travis and I went to see “Jumper”. Fun flick, nothing earth shattering but it was fun and an interesting premise behind the movie. Hayden Christensen was a good choice for the main character as it was nice to see him as something other than Anakin Skywalker.
We also went to dinner at the Tequila Grill and it was yummy!
That was in celebration of our 8 year anniversary!
And yes, I’m still in love with my wonderful husband after all those years!
So, I discovered a website called project playlist and I love it. Okay, I didn’t personally discover it, but I found someone else using it on my space and since then I have updated my playlist thru this site about 16 times. I’m glad to find music that I could never remember the name of again and listen and enjoy it without feeling like I’m robbing the music industry. Baba O’Reilly by The Who is such a case in point.
My other new fascination is Kevin Smith. We have been reading both of his books lately and he is truly a genius. We already loved his movies and now we are getting new insight into his life, not only as a director, but as a husband, father, and friend as well and we both have so much respect for this talented guy.
Anya and I made cupcakes today. We make vanilla cupcakes with cherry, amaretto, and lemon icings. I watched Semi Homemade on the Food Network the other day and actually realized I could do that! It was very easy and fun. The amaretto ones are of course my favorite.
So, Lost has returned and it is awesome! Travis actually got chills watching it last night in one scene. It has been so much figuring out what is going on with this show. I love mysteries. Maybe that’s why I loved Scooby Doo as a kid too.
We are gearing up to do our taxes now and I’m both excited and nervous. I’m sure we will get some money back but I’m hoping its more than we hoped for. We have been budgeting our money really well, but as cold as its been here lately its been a bit boring. Can’t really go out to do much and can only rent so many movies. We are contemplating joining Netflix again so we can get some old TV series to watch. Kevin Smith recommends Veronica Mars so we are really interesting in seeing it.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and Congrats to Travis’ cousin Kristi on the arrival of Mekhi!
