Ellie is still at the Henderson Animal Shelter. And just as I am considering bringing Chance to meet her and consider adopting her into our family and giving Chance, not only a companion but a Shepherd companion-which he absolutely adores other Shepherds, I was told that Ellie has been saved by German Shepherd Rescue of Las Vegas, so hopefully she will find a permanent home with them.
Enjoying the Christmas season beginnings. We are bringing out the decorations and things this weekend so that will be fun with Anya this year.
Again, I’d like to point out the video at www.borntodiepets.com. Its very important to me that people know how desperate the situation is at all animal shelters and please, please adopt an animal for someone or give them a gift certificate to adopt an animal instead of buying one at the pet shops.
Anya is doing very well, she is loving Blue’s Clue’s right now as well. We have decided on her big 3 for Christmas this year. For those of you that don’t know, we give Anya 3 presents each year from Travis and I in honor of the 3 gifts that the 3 wisemen brought to Christ at his birth. She gets a stocking as well but we try not to buy her too much at Christmas as we believe its important to honor the reason for the season.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I cooked my very first turkey ever today by myself!!!! It came out really good, surprisingly! It was just a turkey breast, but it was a turkey nonetheless. Travis doesn’t eat dressing so I made homemade mashed potatoes as well. We also had peas, mac and cheese for Anya, cranberry sauce, crescent rolls, and apple cobbler. Everything was yummy. Also, we didn’t do too much today, we just stayed home with Anya and let her play and watch Shrek 2, while I cooked, Anya tried to help a couple of times. She helped stir the peas and mix the mashed potatoes. She’s quite the kitchen helper, until she gets bored and realizes there are toys in the other room.
I’d like to say a big Congratulations to my friend Holly and her husband Matt on the arrival of Chase Matthew. He was born yesterday, Nov.22nd at 920am. He weighed in at 8lbs 2oz and was 20 and 3/4 inches long. He’s doing great and breastfeeding like a champ. Way to go Holly! And I’m happy to say that I am the one that suggested the name Chase, so I helped name the little boy. Chase was a name Travis and I loved for a long time, but we have since come up with other names for a boy that we like more, and no we are not going to say what they are and no we are not planning to have another one for at least another year or two. We are enjoying Anya right now and we will have another one in a couple of years. Congrats though to Holly and Matt, I’m very proud of her. I have known Holly since she was born and we grew up together in Opelika, so we have been lifelong friends and I’m so thrilled for her to be a Mommy now, she will be a great one!
Finally, Ellie. Ellie is a German Shepherd that Anya and I have fallen in love with at the Henderson Animal Shelter. She’s a four year old sweetheart and I am praying she gets a home soon. Ellie is a wonderful dog, as they all are at the shelter. I can’t stress enough how important it is to adopt from an animal shelter. Ellie is $65 and is so needing a home. Here’s a link to a very good documentary video done by a local Las Vegas animal lover. Its not for the faint of heart. Its not gory but it will give you a good indication of how many animals die everyday in this country. Almost 15000 animals a day are euthanized in this country because there are simply not enough homes for them all, but if everyone would spay and neuter their animals, then the problem would get significantly smaller. I feel this is my job, to let others know about how important it is to rescue these animals, God gave me a love for animals and the least I can do is everything I can to help shelter animals, and sharing this dramatic clip is important to me. It will make you cry.

So, the grandparents, Granny and Pop Pop, left late last night after a nice weekend visit. Anya was back to being a bit shy because she’s had a cold and is cutting the 2 year molars, but overall she played with them well, especially with bubbles and coloring with Pop Pop! She loves bubbles and loves to color! She is also able to call Pop Pop and Granny by name now which was very cool for them. We had a good visit and we made Thanksgiving dinner while they were here which was yummy! Travis and I aren’t planning to go back to visit for Christmas this year, so its just going to be us for Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s okay. We will miss participating in all the Christmas activities, but it will be nice to establish some of our own holiday traditions for Anya as well. We are planning to let her help decorate the tree this year and making cookies and taking her to ride the sleigh up at Mt. Charleston. We are thinking of going to Santa Monica for a couple of days as well just to get out Vegas a bit, I would love to go to Disneyland, but Travis is wanting to wait until Anya’s a little older before taking her to a theme park.
My friend Holly, who I have known all her life because we grew up next to each other in Opelika until we moved to Montgomery when I was 7, is expecting her first baby any day now so I’m excited for her and hope everything goes well for her. I remember being anxious and a little scared of becoming a Mom for the first time, but its a wonderful experience and I know Holly will do well! Good Luck Holly, I wish I could be there to see you guys, but just call me if you need anything!
My poor husband. He had to go to the doc this morning about his ankle. He’s had problems with it for years and we went to see about it when we lived in Montgomery almost 7 years ago now. Well, its finally been acting up bad again this past month and so he went to have it looked at it again. They did an x-ray and gave him a shot of cortisone which he said was rather painful. (He better be glad he didn’t have to go through labor with Anya, but I didn’t point that out to him.) He also has to wear a brace on his ankle for 6 weeks before going back. Eventually, he will have to have surgery on it, but we are hoping that’s still about 10 years down the road. On to other news, Anya’s doing well, she’s eating spaghetti and meatballs tonight which she loves. Her latest craze is “The Incredibles”, which she absolutely loves. She holds the DVD case and gives it a kiss whenever she sees it, which is so sweet. Its hard for Travis and I right now though because we would love to get her a doll or action figure or something from “The Incredibles” but its very hard to find this stuff now because the latest Pixar movie is “Cars” so everything “Cars” is out right now. Hopefully she’ll like that one just as well when it comes out too. So far she just loves “The Incredibles” and “Snoopy”. She was watching “Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” quite a bit, so we will probably get “A Charlie Brown Christmas” for her soon and maybe “Snoopy Come Home”. She watched a good bit of “Bon Voyage Charlie Brown” tonight and loves all the parts with Snoopy, especially when he was playing tennis at Wimbledon. She also officially not using a bottle for her milk anymore. We just denied it to her one night and she didn’t even cry. I told her she had to drink her milk from a big girls cup and she’s been fine with that. Now, we are tackling potty training!!!
